A Family Welfare and Protection Officer from the Ministry of Gender Equality reported a case of sexual abuse against five residents of a home. The perpetrator was reportedly a 17-year-old resident who shared their room. The five victims are between 9 and 12 years old.
It was at the Plaine-Verte police station that a complaint of sexual abuse was reported for these five victims, two of whom are 9 years old, one 10 years old, one 11 years old, and one 12 years old, in the late afternoon of Monday, January 23. This official explained that she was at her office in Port Louis that same day when a social worker from this home arrived with these five children, following an order from the Children’s Court.
After lengthy interviews, the boys took turns recounting that they had been sexually abused on several occasions by a 17-year-old boy who shared their room. On the same day, the five victims were seen by a departmental psychologist before being taken to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis, where they were treated for their injuries. Jeetoo, Port-Louis where the protocol for victims of sexual abuse was put in place. They were admitted to the ward.
An investigation was initiated. The teenager was interviewed and a report will be made by the Probation Office. After that, the file will be forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
