Must Read

Rajaye Heetun would have celebrated his 59th birthday on Saturday, February 19. However, the body of this inhabitant of Clemencia was found in a state of decomposition, surrounded by mosquitoes, in a sitting position on a rattan chair at his home this Thursday morning of February 17.

Living alone, this fifty-year-old was the victim of a malicious act. The autopsy performed on Thursday evening, February 17, attributed his death to a fractured skull. The investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Rivière-Sèche led to the arrest of five suspects. After long hours of interrogation, four of them were allowed to leave. But the 42 year old planter Neermal Chamroo, a resident of the same village, was detained after confessing to being the author of Rajaye Heetun’s attack. The motive for his crime was that the victim did not return the cell phone he had given him on loan.

Neermal Chamroo told the investigators of the CID of Dry River in great detail how he had violently attacked his drinking buddy. The latter, he said, “didn’t go back to the portabello because he was ready to go. An argument over this matter degenerated into a fight where he then seized “enn rail rido” to inflict blows to Neermal Chamroo all over his body. Under the rain of the blows, the victim collapsed and did not react anymore. Then Neermal Chamroo explains to have placed him on his rattan chair in his room before leaving the house.

It is following a request Thursday morning of February 17 towards 9 hours 10 that a team of police officers, led by the sergeant Sahadew, went to the residence of this quinquagénaire. These policemen were to make a macabre discovery. Rajaye Heetun, sitting on a rattan chair, was in a state of decomposition. His body was surrounded by mosquitoes. The police did not rule out a case of foul play. CID and forensic technicians were dispatched to the scene after securing the crime scene.

Subsequently, the body was transported to the morgue of the Victoria Hospital, Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed the death to a skull fracture. The victim had also received blows to the back, fractures to the ribs and left arm.

Neermal Chamroo was brought before the court of Flacq this Friday morning, February 18, where he was charged with one count of murder. He was then taken back to the police cell.
