A 55-year-old man and his 22-year-old son were attacked with a saber in the early hours of Friday morning, August 4, in Morcellement Saint Antoine, Goodlands. The father was admitted to a ward in the intensive care unit at North Hospital and his son admitted to a ward in the same hospital. Their alleged assailant Shiddart Kurottum Ramburn, 24, was arrested.
The young man, who works as a cook, explained in his complaint to Goodlands police station on Friday afternoon, August 4. It was around 1.15 a.m. on the morning of Friday August 4. His 20-year-old sister, his father and himself were in front of their house. There was an argument between them. A quarter of an hour later, Shiddart Kurottum Ramburn, employed by Terra, his sister’s boyfriend, got out of a car with a sword in his hand. He walked towards his father and started cursing, before striking him three times in the left leg. The suspect, he added, then came towards him and struck him in the left leg and right hand with the sword.
Both were wounded and bleeding profusely. They were taken to the northern hospital by their relatives. After receiving treatment, his father was admitted to the intensive care ward. The young cook was admitted to a ward. He cited his mother as their witness in the assault case. Arrested on a charge of aggravated assault, Shiddart Kurottum Ramburn was placed in a cell at the Piton detention center. He was brought before the Pamplemousses court this Saturday morning, August 5, before the Bail and Remand Court in Port-Louis. The police objected to his being released on bail.
