In his first Easter message as Bishop of Port-Louis, Mgr Jean Michaël Durhône spoke of the natural disasters that, in his opinion, are putting many families in a situation of great insecurity and suffering. In the face of such suffering,” added the Bishop of Port-Louis, “we are called, beyond our religious confessions, to compassion, solidarity and generosity with our human brothers and sisters.”
He said that through his son Jesus Christ, who died on a cross out of love for us and rose from the dead, God shows us a path of hope. He shows us that good triumphs over evil, like light over darkness, but also that love is stronger than hate and life stronger than death.
At Easter, said Bishop Durhône, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which symbolises the rebirth of hope. He said that he and the faithful pray that this hope will inspire us to show compassion and solidarity towards our brothers and sisters in need. According to Bishop Durhône, it should also enable us to commit ourselves to building a Mauritius that is fairer, more united and more fraternal.”
He concluded by wishing “dear brothers and sisters, to be animated by faith in this God of love and mercy who wants us to be happy.”
