A 38-year-old female driver, living on the west coast of Tamarin, spent a night in a drunk tank at the Vacoas detention center on the evening of Monday August 14. This after she was found at the wheel of her car on the metro track some thirty meters from the junction of Route Saint Paul and Avenue Sivananda. She was given a breathalyzer test, which came back positive. She had 110 micrograms of alcohol in her breath.
A team of police officers from the Vacoas police station, led by Sergeant Thakooree, went to the subway station at around 7.35pm on the evening of Monday August 14, following a request. A garnet-colored Honda car was seen driving along the subway track. Members of the public called the police.
The police officers saw the car in question on the metro track some 30 metres from Route Saint Paul and Avenue Sivananda, opposite Curepipe. A Senior Technician from Metro Express Ltd was summoned to inspect the track, and found only scratches. He authorized the car to be towed away by the police Towing Unit.
The driver was taken to Victoria Hospital, Candos to give a blood sample before being placed in a cell.
A bus company Traffic Controller tested positive for alcohol on the evening of Monday August 14. It was during a roadside check on the Holywood N0 2 road in Vacoas. It was 7.40pm when the 35-year-old Vacoas resident was stopped at the wheel of his grey Toyota. He was given a breathalyzer test, which came back positive. He had fifty-nine micrograms of alcohol in his breath. The Vacoassian spent the night in a drunk tank at the Vacoas detention center.
