One of the members of the Marcos Commando of the National Coast Guard (NCG) was arrested on Monday April 15 on a charge of drug trafficking. A raid by officers from Rose Belle’s Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) at his home in Morcellement Soobrah, Pointe aux Sables uncovered 7,632 grams of cannabis, an air pistol and lead pellets, 1,536 notebooks of rolling papers, three scissors and four digital scales. The suspect, Ronie Brian Beauger, 31, was absent at the time of the police search. The search took place in the presence of Marie Gérard Wilson Blackburn, 68, a resident of one of the NHDC apartments, Camp Levieux, Rose Hill, who was at home at the time. The sexagenarian was to incriminate Ronie Beauger as the person to whom the drug belonged. The two men, who were arrested and taken into custody, were brought before the Port-Louis court on Tuesday April 16. They are facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking. The market value of the drugs seized is estimated at Rs 18,316,80. In the late afternoon of Tuesday April 16, an individual accompanied by his lawman presented himself at Adsu headquarters to take responsibility for the seized drugs. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Based on information from Adsu officers in Rose Belle that police officer Ronie Beauger of the NCG’s Marcos commando was involved in drug trafficking, an operation was mounted during the day on Monday April 15 to search his house in Morcellement Soobrah, Pointe aux Sables. The exercise was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Patrice Jean.
A search warrant was issued and the Marcos Commando member’s home was raided. Ronie Beauger was absent, so the search took place in the presence of Wilson Blackburn. During the search, the police found three sports bags containing 7632 grams of cannabis, an air pistol with one hundred and ninety-three lead pellets, one thousand five hundred and thirty-six notebooks of rolling papers, three pairs of scissors and four digital scales.
When Wilson Blackburn was questioned about the drugs seized and other items found, he incriminated Ronie Beauger as the owner of all these exhibits. This team of police officers then went to the village of Vale to arrest Ronie Beauger. He was placed in a cell at the Vacoas detention center. Wilson Blackburn was detained at the Pointe aux Canonniers police station.
