A 17-year-old college student was seriously injured in a traffic accident in Eau-Coulée early Tuesday evening, May 9. The local resident was crossing in a crosswalk on Route Royale, Eau-Coulée near Holy Spirit RCA School, when he was struck by a Nissan Etrail. The teenager was admitted to a ward in the intensive care unit of a private clinic in Curepipe.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9. The driver of the car, a 47-year-old woman living in Chébel, Beau-Bassin explained in her statement that she did not see the teenager. After hitting him, she stopped a little further and there she saw the victim lying on the road. The teenager was taken to a clinic by his mother.
The scene of this accident was captured by a Safe City surveillance camera. The driver was given a breathalyzer test by an Emergency Response Service officer. The test was negative.
