In court this morning, the representative of the DPP indicated that Mr Satyajit Boolell has decided to lodge a motion of discontinuance of proceedings in the case against Bernard Maigrot. The DPP will order a police investigation to confront the defendant with the new evidence obtained. It should be remembered that this question was the subject of a debate in court. Mr. Gavin Glover challenged the trial against his client stating that Bernard Maigrot had not been confronted with the new scientific evidence found more than 20 years after the murder of Vanessa Lagesse. So, before the court ruled on the case, the DPP has decided to stop the trial in order to resume it later, after Bernard Maigrot had had the opportunity to explain himself to the police.
As he left court, Mr Gavin Glover said that he was considering the possibility of challenging the new police investigation 21 years after the events.
