Demolition Of The Emmanuel Anquetil Building: Several Options To Be Studied

In the 2023-2024 Budget, the Minister of Finance announced that the Emmanuel Anquetil building would be demolished to make way for a mini-forest. This measure was the subject of the Opposition Leader’s Private Notice Question on Thursday. Bobby Hurreeram gave many details. He said that Rs 40 million had been budgeted for consultants. He also indicated that demolition and reconstruction costs could reach Rs 1.5 billion. The project will not be completed for another three years. In the meantime, there are several options to be studied: simple renovation, complete demolition or demolition and reconstruction. An inter-ministerial committee, chaired by the PM, will make the decision. Xavier-Luc Duval said that the amount of Rs 1.5 billion had been mentioned at the time.
