In the mise en demeure, drafted by solicitor Pazhany Rangasamy, Rama Valayden, in the name of the Avengers group, which represents Simla Kistnen, is asking the Prime Minister to make a request to the Chinese authorities to obtain the Safe City camera recordings on the day of the death of Soopramanien Kistnen. He pointed out in the document that during the judicial enquiry, no CCTV or Safe City camera recordings were presented to Magistrate Vidya Mungroo-Jugurnath.
Mr Rama Valayden said he had been informed that under the contract between Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd and Mauritius Telecom, all Safe City camera recordings are stored on a cloud server abroad and can be retrieved by the State if a formal request is made to the relevant Chinese authority. He claimed that if the recordings for the period from 15 to 19 October 2020 on the outskirts of Telfair, Moka, de Palma, Quatre Bornes, and Mont Roches are recovered, there is a chance that the police will be able to get their hands on the killers of the MSM officer.
In his formal notice, Me Rama Valayden gave the Prime Minister one month to take the necessary steps. If he fails to do so, he threatens to take legal action. He says he would like a copy of the recordings to be given to Soopramanien Kistnen’s relatives, the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Commissioner of Police.
