After the government unveiled its openness to private clinics under conditions in the treatment of Covid 19, 6 clinics have already come forward.
Indian staff
The C-Care group is the only one to be unveiled so far. There is already a recruitment drive underway in India to acquire doctors as well as nursing officers of various grades specialising in the management of Covid patients. “We estimate that about 30 qualified personnel will be needed to strengthen the staffing of these facilities interested in offering better service in Mauritius to Covid 19 patients who would prefer to be treated private hospital. This pool of staff will be recruited from India,” said Dr Dawood Oaris, president of the Association Des Cliniques Privées.
Conditions and costs
These six clinics believe they are eligible. They will have to provide facilities for isolation and intensive care units, a separate corridor to avoid any possibility of contamination to other patients admitted or in consultation, a separate treatment unit or another dedicated building, and sufficient staff to ensure rotation when the previous team self-isolates.
“In the near future, these clinics will offer treatment in the comfort of a private care for both mild symptomatic and more serious patients requiring artificial respirators or regular oxygen supply, intubations and so on. We cannot quantify a Covid treatment, prices will vary according to the intensity of the symptoms, the time of treatment and the difficulty of the case. What is certain is that an ICU admission will cost more than a simple admission for mild symptoms,” says Dr Dawood Oaris.
