The Ministry of Health has recorded a slight decrease this week. The number of positive cases, compared to last week’s figures, has decreased from 298 to 238. But the number of deaths has increased from 1 to 4 this week. The case is strong in Agaléga with 60 cases for the count of this July 29.
46 admissions
The New ENT Hospital has 46 patients admitted during the week. 4 are on ventilation, 29 people are admitted to the ward and 13 are on oxygen, of which only 2 are fully vaccinated. The 4 deaths, announced by the Vacoas treatment centre, concern non-vaccinated patients.
In Agalega, 56 are local cases and 4 are Indian nationals. These are the results of the Rapid Antigen tests.
As for Monkeypox, PCR tests at the Central Health Laboratory have not revealed any suspect cases.
Vaccination on the rise
Vaccination continues to progress with 1,012,780 people having received their first dose and the rate of the second dose is 978,882. For Booster Dose I, 240,203 people were inoculated with Johnson & Johnson, 8,816 with Sinopharm, 2,825 with Astra Zeneca, 270,203 with Pfizer and 109,164 with Moderna. For Booster Dose II, 11,754 people were inoculated with Pfizer, 238 with Moderna, 9 with Johnson & Johnson and 1 with Sinopharm. For the adolescent campaign, 75,734 received the first dose of Pfizer and 69,723 the second dose. For the pediatric dose, i.e., pupils aged 5 to 11 years, the Ministry announced a total of 12,754 children inoculated for the first dose and 6,327 for the second.
In Rodrigues, 75.77% of the population received the first dose, 72.28% the second and 15,606 the third.
To be noted, in Mauritius, as from 01 August 2022, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be offered as a second dose to those aged 18 years and above. As stipulated in the Ministry’s press release, the administration will take place from Monday to Friday from 9am to 12pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 12pm in 12 vaccination centres.
