A couple in their forties, who were working at the Mahebourg market on Monday 24 July, were unpleasantly surprised to find that their home in VRS Morcellement, Ville Noire, Mahebourg had been burgled. Thieves had forced open an aluminium door on the veranda to gain access to the interior. They made off with gold jewellery and two watches, one of which was a Rolex. The total value is estimated at Rs 300,000.
After a hard day’s work at the Mahebourg market, where the 45-year-old man and his wife had gone to sell vegetables, they were devastated when they returned home at around 5 p.m. on Monday 24 July to find that they had been burgled. The man went to the Mahebourg police station and lodged a complaint immediately afterwards.
In his complaint, he explained that the theft had been committed between 10am and 5pm on Monday 24 July. The perpetrators forced their way into the house through an aluminium door opening onto a veranda. They stole four chains, including two with medals inscribed Prince and Angel, a chain commonly known as a mangulsutre, two watches, one Rolex and another Body & Soul, and a bracelet. The value of the loot taken is Rs 300,000.
The case has been referred to the Criminal Investigation Division in Mahebourg. It is working with men from the Field Intelligence Office to trace the theft.
