The Mayor of the Commonwealth Games Village, Hannah England in company of Richard Papie, Head of Mission of the Mauritian delegation in Birmingham, welcomed Team Mauritius on Wednesday 27 July 2022 for the traditional flag raising ceremony.
The Mauritian athletes as well as the officials were present for the occasion in front of the podium where the national anthem was played and the quadricolour flag was raised.
This Thursday, July 27, the opening ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games is taking place at the Alexander Stadium.
Director Iqbal Khan had said that the ceremony would aim to showcase Birmingham’s “lively and vibrant confidence”.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games will see the participation of 62 Mauritian athletes. As many as 4,500 athletes from 72 nations will compete in 19 sports and 8 para-sports at 15 venues.
