Cases Of Legionellosis Reported In Mauritius

Must Read

There are a dozen cases of legionellosis in Mauritius. The presence of the bacteria has been confirmed at Outrigger Resort in Bel Ombre by the Deputy Prime Minister, Steven Obeegadoo and Health Minister, Kailesh Jagutpal at a press conference on Friday afternoon. Steven Obeegadoo explained that it was the health authorities in Reunion Island who informed Mauritius of the issue. This was after Reunionese and French nationals, who were on holidays in Mauritius, fell ill upon their return to the French territory.

The Minister of Health explained, in detail, the measures taken by the health authorities as soon as the news of the presence of legionellosis in Mauritius reached Port Louis. He said that the hotels were ordered to take samples. It was only at the Outrigger Resort that the presence of the bacteria was confirmed. Steven Obeegadoo said that there is no reason to believe that legionella is present outside this hotel.
