Jeetendra Nundloll, a 47-year-old cab driver, met a sad end while on his way to his in-laws’ home in Red Earth to wish them a happy new year. The forty-year-old, who lived in Lallmatie, suffered a fatal fall down the stairs in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 4. The autopsy performed the same day attributed his death to a ruptured liver.
There was consternation at the Nundloll home at Mahatma Gandhi Road, Lallmatie. Jeetendra Nundloll had gone to celebrate the New Year at his in-laws’ home in Red Earth on Monday, January 3, along with his family. It was his remains that were returned on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 4. Because in the early hours of the morning of January 4, that is to say around 01:15, the forty-year-old fell down the stairs in Terre-Rouge.
It is his brother-in-law, a 38-year-old contractor, who reported this case to the police shortly after 5 o’clock in the morning of Tuesday January 4. He explained that he drove Jeetendra Nundloll to North Hospital after Nundloll fell down the stairs after becoming dizzy. His brother-in-law, he said, was unconscious and had blood dripping from his mouth. The doctor on duty could only pronounce him dead and referred the case to the police.
Jeetendra Nundloll’s body was taken to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis where an autopsy was performed. The autopsy attributed his death to a ruptured liver. At the time of his fall down the stairs, Jeetendra Nundloll was under the influence of alcohol.
Jeetendra Nundloll is survived by his inconsolable wife and two sons. His funeral took place on Tuesday, January 4. He was cremated in the village of Lallmatie.
The Red Earth Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this accident.
