Jonathan Christophe Beauyeux, an 18-year-old mason from Batimarais, was arrested on Sunday June 18 on a charge of rape. Police allege that he raped a 36-year-old teacher from the same village. The suspect was brought before the Souillac court on Monday June 19 on a provisional charge of rape. He was taken back to the police cell.
In her complaint to the Rivière des Anguilles police station, the teacher recounted that at around 1am on Sunday June 18, she was asleep in her bedroom when she felt a hand on her body. She woke up and turned on the light. That’s when she saw a man beside her bed with a knife in his hand, who told her as she was about to scream, “to pe vinn fer la fors avek mwa la, monn vinn fer enn travay avek twa, si to res trankil mo pou donn twa douz mil roupi, … finn avoy mwa la”.
The young man dragged her into another room, holding her right hand with his left. He pushed her onto a bed before sexually abusing her. He then intimated, “si to dir kiken dan lendrwa, swa lapolis mo pou revini enkor, mo pe ale sers to douz mil roupi mo pe vini la”.
His assailant fled through the front door. The victim gave police investigators clues as to the identity of the person the suspect allegedly sent him.
In addition, a 21-year-old waitress living in Cité Bois Marchand, Terre-Rouge, lodged a complaint of rape on the afternoon of Sunday June 18. In the company of her sister, she had left for a party at Rose Belle on the evening of Saturday June 17. When she woke up on the morning of Sunday June 18, she found herself in bed with three men.
In her complaint of rape late in the afternoon of Sunday June 18, she explained the circumstances in which she went to cité EDC, Rose-Belle at around 10 p.m. on Saturday June 17 for a birthday party. After consuming a few glasses of alcoholic beverages, she felt unwell. She then went to a room to rest.
On Sunday June 18, the exact time of which she didn’t know when she woke up, she felt dizzy, and at the same time a man was having sex with her. She recognized him as a friend of hers who lives in Rose Belle. He was kneeling on the bed and immediately put his shorts back on. She saw another man to her right and a third behind her back. She woke up with a start and got dressed before calling for help. Her sister’s boyfriend arrived and reprimanded them. The victim was admitted to Rose-Belle’s Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital, where the protocol for victims of sexual abuse was put in place.
The Rose-Belle police force was called in to deal with the case.
