No time to be idle at the beginning of the year. Despite the lack of competitions due to the health measures in force in the country, the young sprinters Orphée Topize and Yohan Murden have shown themselves during the tests that took place on Saturday, January 30, 2022 at the Maryse Justin stadium in Reduit. The two residents of Rose-Hill AC have respectively broken the national records (manual time) of 150 m and 300 m of the category U 18.
Yohan Murden, 16, improved the national record in the 300m by almost a second. He was credited with a time of 34.9 seconds. The previous record was held by Yannick Emilien in 35.8 seconds and dated from July 13, 2002. The electronic record for this distance for the U18 category is 35.34 secs. “I am very happy to have broken this record in my first competition of the year. I will continue to apply myself in order to represent Mauritius at the 2022 CJSOI Games. I thank my coach, Steeves Legentil, who prepared me to achieve such a performance,” said Yohan Murden.
The other big man on the test day was Orpheus Topize. He broke a 27 year old record. George Vieillesse’s protégé took the manual record for the 150m in 16.1 secs while the electronic record is 17.10 secs. The old manual mark was set by Westley Rousseau in 16.4 seconds (24.03.1995). “I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that I broke the record. This will boost me to put me in the best conditions for the upcoming CJSOI Games in December,” he said.
The next test day is scheduled for February 12 at the Maryse Justin Stadium in reduced.
