It happened on the morning of Wednesday, May 3. Cedric Henriette, 20 years old and incarcerated at the Melrose high security prison, attacked a prison guard with his fists in the face after pushing him against a wall. The guard, a 29-year-old resident of Brisée-Verdière, had refused him permission to go out into the yard.
In his deposition at the Montagne-Blanche police station, he explained that he was working at the Marygold Unit of this prison institution that day. At one point, he was in yard no. 3 to open the cell of a prisoner, when another prisoner, Cedric Henriette, asked him for permission to leave. When he refused, the latter stuck him against a wall and hit him several times in the face. Suffering from pain in his right ear and shoulder, he asked to be examined by a doctor.
Cédric Henriette was sentenced to three years in prison at the Intermediate Court in Port-Louis for a case of robbery with violence and murder. On June 7, 2022, this resident of Ti-Rodrigues, Stateland, Cité La Cure, had killed Marguetson Legentil, 63 years old, with the help of another defendant. They had then tried to make this deadly aggression look like a suicide.
