The lifeless body of Devnarainsing Shiblall, a 54 year old ploughman was discovered in the basement of a house located on Royal Road in Montagne on the afternoon of Friday, May 6. The victim was on a bed with his hands and feet bound with a piece of cloth. His body was covered with a mattress. Traces of blood were found on the floor. A firearm apparently a toy and a pair of scissors were under his body. The autopsy performed this Saturday morning, April 7, attributed his death to asphyxiation. Devnarainsing Shiblall was suffocated.
It was around 5pm on the afternoon of Friday, May 6, that the police station of Montagne-Blanche was alerted to this macabre discovery by the owner of the house, a 56-year-old driver. The victim, who is separated from his wife, was living there alone as a tenant. A team of police officers soon arrived at the crime scene near a supermarket. A doctor from the Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene and was only able to confirm the death of the man. Several investigators, including forensic technicians, were on the scene to collect evidence to help solve the case. Dr. Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer, conducted an initial examination of the body before it was transported to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis for an autopsy.
The police photographer and draughtsman took pictures and plans of the crime scene respectively. Dr. Sunnassee, who performed the autopsy on the body on Saturday, May 7, attributed the death of the 50-year-old to asphyxiation caused by suffocation.
The men of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Eastern Division are working with their colleagues from the Field Intelligence Office to find the perpetrator of this murder.
