Suspicions that an individual living in one of the apartments of the NHCD Mont Rose 2, Balisson, Rose-Belle was involved in a traffic of false documents, have been proven. A raid by police officers of the Divisional Supporting Unit (DSU) of the Central Division at the home of Gilbert Issac Damoo, a 58 year old entrepreneur, resulted in the seizure of several seals, including those of the National Transport Authority (NTA), fitness test centers and post offices. He also seized insurance stickers for several companies and equipment for the manufacture of false documents. Gilbert Damoo was arrested and placed in a cell at the Vacoas detention center. This Friday morning, June 17, he was brought before the court of Mahébourg on a provisional charge of falsification of documents. He was taken back to the police cell.
It was around 5:20 pm on Thursday, June 16 that the men of Inspector Curum of the DSU of the Central Division arrived at the home of Gilbert Damoo. At the same time the suspect who was arriving at his laminated machine domicile on board his car was picked up by these policemen. He was informed about the reason of this police team at his home. His car a Nissan of silver color was searched. It is then that these policemen were to discover an envelope of brown color under the seat of the driver. It contained a seal of the NTA suspected to be a fake.
When questioned by one of the police officers about the presence of the envelope and seal, he said, “mo pa konne nanien”. He was taken to his house before a body search was conducted on him. This exercise revealed in his left trouser pocket a sum of Rs 104,600. This money, he had to say, “pou mwa sa larzan la”. This search continued on the ground floor of his house. In a cupboard a policeman found a sum of Rs 45 000. When asked about the source of the money Gilbert Damoo said, “mo finn gagn sa dan casino”.
Three USB keys, an internal hard drive, two cell phones, a taser, a money detector, a laminated machine, a computer connected to two mice, two printers, a scanner. When asked about the presence of this equipment in his home, he had to say, “mo servi sa bann laparey la pou fer foss lasirans, foss deklarasyon ek foss fitness”.
Fake insurance stickers, fake NTA declaration stickers and fake fitness stickers and two hologram strips were seized from his home.
The police intend to trace those in possession of these false documents.
