Leroy Figaro, 37, who was employed as a general worker at the Mauritius Sport Council (MSC) and posted at the Germain Commarmond Stadium in Bambous, drowned in Flic en Flac on Friday morning, 26 August. The victim had gone out in a boat with two of his friends for a fishing trip at La Fourche, Medina. At some point, the thirty-year-old fell into the water before disappearing. His body was recovered by divers from the National Coast Guard (NCG) in Flic en Flac.
The Bambous resident was out on a fishing trip with two of his friends in a boat. At some point, Leroy Figaro fell into the water and his body disappeared. Shortly before 11.30am the alarm was raised at the police station in Flic en Flac. Immediately, a rescue operation was set up.
Police officers from the Flic en Flac police station and elements of the NCG went to the scene. The intervention of the police helicopter was also requested. It was not until 12.25pm on Friday 26 August that the body of Leroy Figaro was recovered from a depth of ten metres.
His body was then taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy was carried out by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, who attributed his death to drowning due to asphyxiation. An investigation has been initiated at the police station of Flic en Flac to shed light on the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
