Fourth cyclone bulletin for Rodrigues issued at 1010 hours on Saturday 18 February 2023. Satellite imageries over the last 12 hours indicate that intense tropical cyclone Freddy has maintained its intensity while slowing down slightly. The estimated central pressure of the intense tropical cyclone is around 940 hPa and the estimated wind gust is 230km/h near its centre.
At 10h00 hours on Saturday 18 February 2023, the intense tropical cyclone Freddy was centred at about 840 km to the east-northeast of Rodrigues, near latitude 16.1 degrees south and longitude 70.5 degrees east. It is now moving towards the west-southwest at about 22 km/h.
On this trajectory, Freddy continues to approach Rodrigues and represents a potential threat to the island.
The public in Rodrigues is advised to complete all preliminary precautions.
Cloud bands will start to cross the Island as from this afternoon with passing showers.
Wind will blow from the southeast at about 25 km/h, strengthening gradually tonight with gusts of the order 80km/h.
The sea moderate becoming gradually rough with swells as from tonight.
