The warehouse of Mohammad Ally Jafaar Rassool, 52 years old, located in School Lane, Vallée des Prêtres was searched this Thursday, September 16, by a team of police officers from Alpha 3, Flying Squad of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU). This 50-year-old resident of Bernardin de St-Pierre, Vallée des Prêtres was suspected of being involved in drug trafficking. This raid carried out by the men of Inspector Jauforally allowed to seize a vial containing a certain quantity of Rivotril, classified as a psychotropic product, expired pharmaceutical products, blister packs of contraceptive tablets with the expiration date of April 2021 and labels with new dates.
It was around 9:30 am this Thursday, September 16, that this team of police officers from the Flying Squad landed in the warehouse of Jaffar Rassool. The police officers explained to Jafaar Rassool that there were suspicions that he was involved in illicit transactions. The man had to remove a small cardboard box from the glove compartment of his car, a Mercedes, before declaring, “ena zis sa Rivotrilla, pou enn clien sa”. The police officer immediately asked him if he had a prescription for it, to which he replied in the negative. The police officer then informed him that this is proof that he is involved in drug trafficking. Jafaar Rassool then had to add, “mo pou kapav fer enn tras lordonans pou sa are dokter F…”.
A search was made of his car, but no incriminating items were found. This exercise continued in his warehouse. This one resulted in the discovery of several boxes containing pharmaceuticals with the inscription “contracept” on a wooden table. With labels with the expiration date April 2021. Some of these boxes do not have the serial number or the expiration date. Other boxes have freshly glued labels with the expiration date of June 2023. All indications are that there has been some modification.
In another place in this warehouse several blister packs of tablets were discovered. In his van these police officers discovered several bags of tablets bearing the names of several pharmacies. An officer of the government pharmacy was requested on site. He had to establish that this company director had violated “the pharmacy act”. A search was then to be carried out at his home. This one did not give anything.
Jafaar Rassool was taken back to the police cell on Friday 17 September, after his appearance at the Port-Louis court.
