In a statement made at the Pailles Police Station by a police sergeant on behalf of the 40-year-old, he explained the circumstances in which he suffered burns to his body. It was around 1pm on Tuesday 18 April and he had lit a fire to prepare his meal on the bank of this river. Right next to this place there was a pile of rubbish. It was an aerosol can that was right next to the place that he lit a fire of wood that exploded. There was a projection of flames. He was hit in the face, hands and feet.

One of his friends came to his aid and took him to the hospital in Candos. After receiving treatment, he was moved to a ward in the intensive care unit of the Burns’ Unit. His condition is considered stable.

It was after being informed of this case by the hospital’s Police Post that Sergeant Jagoo of the Central Barracks Police Station went to his bedside on the evening of Tuesday 18 April to take his statement.
