The noise of the chainsaw resounded in the forest of Savannah this Thursday afternoon of October 27. A security guard, who was working there, alerted another colleague, who was at Bassin Carangue, L’Escalier to come and help. Indeed, the latter, 61 years old, did not take long to arrive on the scene. A Mazda car was parked near the junction of the La Sourdine cemetery and two individuals were changing their clothes. When questioned about their presence at this location, one of the two men said, “Ton Dibois sec sa”. The trunk of the car was filled with freshly cut sandalwood. They had, however, to abandon this booty a little further along the road. This one is estimated Rs 400 000.
It is around 2:30 pm this Thursday, October 27 that this guard, working for ENL, went to the forest of Savannah concerning a case of sandalwood theft. This after he was alerted on the phone by a colleague who told him he heard the sound of a chainsaw. On his arrival at the junction of the cemetery of La Sourdine, he saw a car of the brand Mazda of white color parked at this place. Shortly thereafter, he saw two men changing their clothes.
One of these two men replied, “Ton dibois ses sa”. However, when the second man opened the trunk of the Mazda, it was filled with freshly cut sandalwood. The driver then got into his vehicle to leave.
The sixty-year-old man made a round with his colleague in this forest. They had to find these woods which were in the trunk of the car at the side of the road. They also found that 25 sandalwood trees had been cut down. They loaded them all into a van as evidence and drove to the police station in L’Escalier. A case of attempted theft of sandalwood trees was reported. The whole is estimated at Rs 400 000.
An investigation has been initiated at the level of the Criminal Investigation Division of the South Division to trace the two perpetrators of this attempted theft. According to the register of the National Transport Authority, the Mazda is registered to a resident of Carreau Esnouf, Plaine-Magnien.
