Labour Party supporters were out in force at Kewal Nagar, Belle Rive to commemorate the 122nd anniversary of the birth of SSR. The red supporters, who came in large numbers, took the opportunity to spend half a day with their families and especially with friends, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 122nd birthday of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (SSR).
The party leader, Navin Ramgoolam, was in fine form and did not hold back in his speech. The main theme was the organisation of the elections. “Mo fini donn warning si kokin eleksyon encore enn kout. Si sa arive, nu kav dir bye bye nu liberte ek nu demokrasi”. He declared that during the next legislative elections, the PTr will demand that the counting be done on the same day, he also warned. This time, they will not accept any irregularities and no computers in the counting centres. Nou pa pa pou asekpte kamion salete ek kamion CWA vine pran bwat. O fe nou pou dir bizin konte mem zour”.
Other topics of current affairs commented on were the economic and social situation of the country, for Navin Ramgoolam, we are on a volcano. Navin Ramgoolam also launched a dig at those leaving the party: he recalled that the priority is not a position in the party, but to make the MSM leave. Navin Ramgoolam was responding in kind.
To those who are of the opinion that Arvin Boolell and Shakeel Mohamed did not have a position of responsibility in the party, he reminded them that Arvin Boolell is the leader of the Labour Party in Parliament and between 2014 and 2019, it was Shakeel Mohamed who occupied this position.
Dhaneshwar Damry, the Labour Party’s Director of Strategy, Innovation and Transformation, on his Facebook page writes: “I am committed to pursuing this philosophy of equal opportunity for all for a sovereign Mauritius where future generations will breathe freedom and prosperity.”
SSR’s patriotic commitment and struggle for independence, he points out, has shaped the values of the Labour Party and Mauritius; notably to promote meritocracy, transparency, unity, good governance and integrity. Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, as the guarantor of these values, has created the space for the new generation of which he is a part within the Reds who are committed to honouring these values, he continued.
