Beaten on his two races this season, Nourbese will be a big runner in the final leg of the 4-year’s old championship which will be run this Sunday over 1850m at the Champ-de-mars racecourse.
A three horses’ race will be the main event of this Sunday’s meeting. The Gatekeeper, who won the second leg of the 4-year’s old championship, is the big favorite to strike again and win the trophy. He will be well suited by the 1850m and he will be the horse to beat.
Nourbese was very unlucky last time as he had to check severely at the 1200m when The Gatekeeper shifted in abruptly. The South African, Chase Maujean received a two-meeting suspension for his ride on ‘The Gatekeeper’ under Rule 208(d) for interference. Nourbese is in a better shape this time and he will be ridden by South Afican jockey Bernard Fayd’herbe this time. Champion trainer Ricky Maingard certainly has his plans to try and steal this race tactically.
Absolutist did not finish far from The Gatekeeper over 1600m. He will also be a big danger as he won his only race in Mauritius over 1850m.
