Reform Party Goes Solo!

Change in the Opposition. It will be up to l’Entente de l’Espoir for a reform. 77.5% of the delegates voted for a split with l’Entente de l’Espoir. The Reform Party announced that it will go alone to the 2024 general election with 60 candidates.

It will be Roshi Badhain who will be pushed for the post of Prime Minister. This was the decision of the mass at the delegates’ meeting at the Octave Wiehé auditorium in Reduit on Saturday 30 July, which was also marked by a voting exercise.

At the count of the 406 delegates, 313, i.e., 77.5% were in favor of an alliance with new parties, 33 voters, i.e., 8.2% were in favor of l’Entente de Espoir allying with the Labour Party (PTr) with Navin Ramgoolam as Prime Minister and 58 voters, i.e., 14.3% felt that things should remain the same.

During his speech, the leader of the RP, Roshi Bhadain made public some electoral promises in case of victory. These included: halving the salaries of Ministers and the outgoing Prime Minister, abolition of VAT on fuel for two years, a public account of the agreement between India and Mauritius on Agalega, and food vouchers for the most vulnerable families.
