The Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage acquired the works of winners of a painting competition on the theme ‘Rural Landscape’ and organised by the National Heritage Fund.
To mark the occasion, an official ceremony for the handing over of cheques to the nine winners, aged between three to 15 years old, was held on 27 May 2022 at the Headquarters of the Ministry, in the presence of the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, and other personalities.
Minister Teeluck recalled that he was impressed by the children’s talent and highlighted that it is the Ministry’s responsibility to encourage children, as well as their parents, to develop their talent. He observed that his Ministry is also coming with a series of measures so as to help children to further progress artistically.
The painting competition was divided into two categories: the first one for children aged from three to eight years old; and the second for children aged between nine to 15 years old. The total number of entries received in the two categories were 58 and 83 respectively. The paintings of nine children, who won the competition, were thus purchased by the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, each for an amount of Rs 3000.
It is recalled that, in 2021, the National Heritage Fund invited participants aged between three to 15 years old for a painting competition on the theme ‘Rural Landscape’ in the context of the celebrations of the International Day for Monuments and Sites. This special day offers an opportunity to raise public awareness concerning the diversity of National and World Heritage and efforts that are required to protect and conserve them, as well as to draw attention to their vulnerability.
