A raid by police officers of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) of the Central Division was made at the home of a 75-year-old man in Henrietta, Vacoas late Tuesday afternoon, May 24. Upon arrival of the police officers, the suspect who was in a bush in front of his house managed to flee leaving a backpack behind. This one was recovered and inside there was a transparent plastic containing 635 grams of cannabis, one hundred and eighty cannabis seeds, his national identity card and a green beret. The value of the seized cannabis is estimated at Rs 381 000.
It is around 17 hours 35 this Tuesday May 24 that this team of Adsu led by the sergeant Gokhool landed at the residence of this septuagenarian. They had information that the suspect was involved in drug trafficking. When the police arrived, the septuagenarian was absent and his door was locked.
The police officers of Adsu set up a surveillance on the spot. At one point, the suspect was seen walking in an overgrown field in front of his house. When he saw the policemen, the septuagenarian had to throw away a black backpack that he had in his possession before taking his legs to his neck. He managed to get away from the police officers.
The seized exhibits were taken to the Adsu office in Curepipe. The septuagenarian was arrested Wednesday afternoon in La Flora by police officers of Adsu of Rose-Belle.
