Linion Pep Morisien (LPM) was in front of the press this Thursday 12th May 2022 to announce a symbolic manifestation under the theme “Respe Droit Humain”, which will be organised tomorrow, Friday 13th May 2022 at 9:30 in front of La Flore Mauricienne in Port Louis.
During the press meeting, Ivor Tan Yan spoke of the recent situation involving the mistreatment of the President of the Bar Council by the Police while he was serving an order of the Supreme Court concerning his client. He also spoke of another arbitration arrestation again a Lawyer who kept for almost 24 hours just for a post posted on Facebook while calling for witnesses.
He pointed out that any political party, which believes in democracy and in the functioning of democratic institutions, cannot remain quiet on such an issue. Still in this context, he made it clear that LPM, as a responsible political party, will not remain quiet and not act against this; and this is why they are organizing this manifestation tomorrow.
Danielle Turner, on her part, stated that Linion Pep Morisien is in full support with the Bar Council and the lawyers participating in the manifestation to denounce this unacceptable act against the President of the Bar Council. She also pointed out that the LPM is taking part in this as activists of Human Rights as they believe at the LPM that Human Rights in Mauritius are in grave danger where the population has lost trust in the police force as well as in justice.
LPM also requested the President of the Republic, being an attorney at law, to act and take actions against this atrocity.
