“Largue, largue portab la mo pou koup to lamin”. This is the threat that an individual made to a 38-year-old chief accountant on the evening of Friday, March 4. This resident of the Plaine-Verte area was about to drive her car on D’Estaing Street, Port-Louis after her jogging at the Champ de Mars. She was first accosted by a woman wearing a hijab. The woman tried to take her cell phone by force, which she was holding in her right hand. The chief accountant did not let her do so. Then a man armed with a sword approached her and threatened her. The thirty-year-old had to comply.
It was shortly after 20 hours this Friday, March 4. The thirty-year-old was walking along D’Estaing Street, Port-Louis after jogging at the Champ de Mars. She was walking on the sidewalk towards her car when a woman, wearing a beige hijab, approached her aggressively. She tried to take her Samsung A 21 cell phone by force. The chief accountant resisted. It was then that a man, armed with a sword, arrived and told her, “drop, drop portab la mo pou koup to lamin”. Tetanized by fright, she had no choice but to drop her phone.
The suspect then had to grab her phone before fleeing with her accomplice. They got on a motorcycle, which was on the other side of the street, and headed towards Mgr Gonin Street. Some pedestrians tried to stop them, but in vain.
The chief accountant went to the Pope Hennessy Police Station to file a complaint. The Criminal Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Southern Division was assigned to the investigation. Both suspects are wanted on a charge of armed robbery.
