Completely ravaged by fire on November 11, 2021, Lakaz Ravann is no more. Kirty O’Clou the founder of the store has not said his last word. Motivated to the max, he is already working on his next stock so that his ravanns will resound again.
Ravann manufacturer lapo Kirty has been behind Lakaz ravann since 2014. Stretched by a string compared to traditional ravanns, those that come out of his workshop in Cassis, do not necessarily need to be heated before playing: “The particularity of this ravann lies in its manufacture. Indeed, I use only dry skin to assemble them with a rope system. The instrument is tight enough to withstand cold and humidity.
With a good clientele, Kirty’s business was going well until the day a violent fire completely devastated his store located at the Caudan Waterfront: “On November 11, all of my valves worth Rs 400,000 went up in smoke in a fire. I did not know what to do. After an outpouring of solidarity, I was able to build a new stock, which allowed me to sell part of my production in December. But, there is still a long way to go before I get back on track.”
Giving himself a month to build up his stock, Kirty expects to be selling his valves again in mid-February: “I’m making my valves. If all goes well, I’ll start selling them in mid-February to meet demand until I get a new location in Caudan.”
