Navin Ramgoolam, leader of the Labor Party, Xavier Duval, leader of the PMSD and Paul Bérenger, leader of the MMM, were together at the wharf square to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the country’s independence on March 12. They then proceeded to a wreath laying in front of the statue of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam.
Navin Ramgoolam said that the three opposition parties (Labour Party/PMSD/MMM) will lead the next government. “Our future is threatened by this government. “We are gathered here today because we know the danger our country is in. The words of our national anthem say that we must come together as one nation to successfully deliver our country,” said Navin Ramgoolam.
Paul Bérenger, leader of the MMM, foresees a very difficult year in socio-economic and political terms and calls for a sense of patriotism from the population.
For the opposition leader, democracy is in danger in Mauritius. Xavier Luc Duval, mentioned the current challenges facing the country, including the problem of drugs and corruption. Drugs according to him is a dominant sector in Mauritius. “On March 12, 2023, we must look to the future. General elections must be held this year or next year. Personally, I am already looking forward to the next mandate. We have to think about how to get Mauritius out of the disastrous situation in which it finds itself,” said Xavier-Luc Duval.
We must fight this scourge on behalf of the Mauritian youth. He spoke about the corruption that has reached an incredible point in Mauritius. According to him, it is essential to appoint the right people to key positions in the fight against drugs and corruption. “We need to put the right people in the right places,” he said.
