The contamination has been rapid on the small island. Currently, Rodrigues has 363 positive cases. Fortunately, Covid 19 has not yet caused any deaths. Hospitalizations are continuing and home quarantine has been instituted. The 10th district of Mauritius has been safe from Covid 19 for 21 months. Given that the hotels turned into quarantine centres were already full, Home Isolation had to be introduced with the promise of home intervention in case of emergency. The Commissioner and President of the High-Powered Committee in Rodrigues, Franchette Gaspard Pierre-Louis reassured the population during her press conference on Saturday 29th January. “During this period, several persons were trained in the management of COVID should be managed. The country was also able to stock up on equipment and medicines and the population has been vaccinated. There will be a legal force for the new restrictions that will be put in place because we want to contain the pandemic, especially through vaccination.”
The Health Commissioner, Simon Pierre Roussety declared that he is confident about the Home Isolation formula “We are working on how to contain COVID in Rodrigues. Thus, a unit has been set up for Home Isolation. I am confident that as is the case in Mauritius, this formula will be successful here.” The ENT Hospital delegation will be in Rodrigues in the course of the next week. Dr Sok Appadu said that currently, “most of the patients are asymptomatic“.
Rodrigues will remain under semi-confinement until 10 February. The 10th district is currently affected by Cyclone Batsirai and is under a Cyclone Warning Class 1 as of 4pm on Saturday.
