Akil Bissessur’s lawyer is accused of not being allowed to practice because he is not registered with the Mauritius Bar Association. Yuvan Sungkur is currently being questioned at the CCID. He is assisted by Mr Mikash Hassamal, from the law firm of Mr Gavin Glover. The President of the Mauritius Bar Council, Yatin Varma, has confirmed that Yuvan Sungkur is not registered with the Mauritius Bar Association. This is an offence under the Law Practitioners’ Act, Varma said. Yuvan Sungkur was there as a lawyer in court, present during recorded police statements, during interrogations, to make statements to the press and even to participate in a radio program.
