WhatsApp To Roll Out Call Link Feature

Must Read

The WhatsApp Call Link feature is now available to some beta testers on Android. Facebook-parent Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced a feature that enables users to create a direct link for audio and video calls as well as join an ongoing call.

WABetaInfo tests WhatsApp features before releasing them to the users and it has announced that the WhatsApp Call Link is now available for users on WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.22.21.13). This feature is set to compete with other conferencing platforms such as Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft teams. These apps allow users to set up video calls by sharing similar links.

How will WhatsApp Call Link feature work?

A “Call Links” option is added to the Calls tab on WhatsApp for users to create links for audio and video calls that can be shared on other platforms. WABetaInfo shared a screenshot of this WhatsApp feature for Android users.

When you create a link for a call, you can choose the type of the call (voice or video) and the call will be automatically converted to a group call when more than two people joined the call. These call links will expire in 90 days. WhatsApp currently allows up to 32 participants for audio calls and up to eight participants for video calls. The company is already testing video calls with up to 32 participants.

The company is conducting tests on video calls with up to 32 participants.

CEO Zuckerberg, earlier this week, while announcing the details, did not clear which operating systems will get the feature first. With this announcement, it is clear that Android users will be the first to get the feature. There is no confirmation as to when the feature will be available for those using iOS, Windows, and WhatsApp Web.
