Jean Loup Lamarque, a 44-year-old welder and resident of La Clémence, Rivière du Rempart, was arrested this Thursday, January 20, after the discovery of 52 cannabis plants at his home. These plants, which measure between 50 centimeters and 3 meters, are estimated at Rs 156 000.
The men of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU), led by Sergeant Mohun of the Metropolitan Police, made the arrest of Jean Loup Lamarque. The latter was under surveillance after the ADSU team obtained information that he was involved in drug trafficking.
Thus, around 11:45 am on Thursday morning, January 20, a raid was conducted at his home. A plastic bag containing a certain quantity of cannabis, 142 grams worth Rs 85,200, was seized. The police also discovered cannabis plants carefully cultivated in PVC pots and pipes. The majority of these plants were ready for harvesting.
Jean Loup Lamarque was brought before the court of Pamplemousses during the day of Thursday, January 20, where he is facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking. He was kept in a police cell at the police station of Quartier-Militaire.
On the other hand, on the same day, a team of ADSU from the Western Division, led by Inspector Azor, searched the house of a resident of Palma, Quatre-Bornes. The search resulted in the seizure of 235 cannabis seeds, a parcel of synthetic drugs and a sum of Rs 60,850 suspected to be from the sale of these drugs. The owner of the house, Deoraz Reetun, a 59 year old entrepreneur, was arrested. He is being held at the Barkly police station after being brought before the Rose-Hill court. He has been charged with provisional drug trafficking.
The man’s 28 year old son, who was absent during the search, is wanted by the Rose Hill ADSU.
