A night out turned into a nightmare for an 18-year-old waitress. The Rivière du Rempart resident had gone to a Grand-Baie nightclub after work on Saturday evening, May 25, in the company of a colleague. It was a night of drinking until the early hours of Sunday morning, May 26. On leaving the discotheque, she met a young man. They went to the public square in Grand-Baie, where they chatted until 6.30am. She accepted the young man’s offer to accompany her to an apartment. As she sat on the bed, tired and under the influence of alcohol, the man threw himself on top of her before sexually abusing her. The suspect is being actively sought by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Grand-Baie.
On the evening of Tuesday May 28, the victim went to the Grand-Baie police station to report the rape. The alleged assailant, whose name she gave up, was said to live in Pointe aux Canonniers. In great detail, she recounted the circumstances in which she had met her attacker as he left the Grand-Baie nightclub at 4:30 am.
They went to the public beach to chat until 6.30 in the morning. When the young man offered to accompany her to an apartment, she accepted. It was there that the young man abused her. She says she can identify him. She declined medical treatment, but agreed to follow all medical procedures prescribed by the medical examiner.
The Grand-Baie CID has already interviewed several witnesses. The suspect’s arrest is imminent.
