In connection with the renewal of a lease of land in Grand Bassin, social worker Vivek Pursun has filed a private prosecution against Minister Maneesh Gobin and PPS Rajanah Dhaliah in the Curepipe court. He has also sworn an affidavit in which he explains the circumstances that led him to take such action. Vivek Pursun filed his Private Prosecution on Friday. He accuses Maneesh Gobin and Rajanah Dhaliah of “conspiracy” and “perverting justice”. The case concerns the 250-hectare plot of land. Vivek Pursun has called Keegan Etwaroo and Ajay Kumar Jeetoo as witnesses. The case will be called on 17 May in the Curepipe Court.
Also regarding this case, Rajesh Ramnarain, arrested in the case of alleged bribe scandal of Rs 3.5 million, was brought before the Port Louis Magistrates’ Court this morning for his provisional indictment for bribery. The Icac representative objected to his release. Rajesh Ramnarain has been remanded to police custody until 11 May. He is suspected to have been the bribe collector in the Stag Party case, was arrested for influence peddling yesterday by the Icac. According to his lawyer, Gavin Glover, he is keeping silent. “Icac does not want to hear the truth,” says Mr Glover. He added that his client and himself are waiting for the Director of Public Prosecutions to take a decision.
