Even if no inventory has been made so far, the damage is considered to be very consequent. This is the observation made after a violent fire ravaged the interior of the warehouse of the company Polytol Paints, located in the industrial zone of Riche-Terre on the morning of Friday, March 3. Raw materials for the manufacture of paint were stored there. The whole is estimated of several million rupees.
It is around 7 am this Friday March 3 that a fire alarm was given. The employees of this factory had not yet arrived. The fire department quickly arrived at the scene of the fire. As they began to douse the burning building with water, police officers from the Red Earth Police Station secured the area and helped evacuate employees from other nearby factories or block access to the site.
Thick smoke was seen in the sky of Riche-Terre. The smoke was visible for several kilometers around. Four teams from the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service were on site to contain the fire. At 2 pm, the fire was under control. However, a team remained on site to prepare for any eventuality in case there would be a recurrence of fire.
An investigation was initiated on this case to shed light on the circumstances of this fire.
