A 23-year-old woman reported a case of rape to the Vacoas police station in the late afternoon of Thursday June 29. In her complaint she accused her boyfriend, a 25-year-old mechanic she has been living with for two years, of sexually accusing her without her consent. The suspect was arrested on the morning of Friday June 30.
In her statement, given at around 3pm on Thursday June 29, the woman described the history of her relationship with her boyfriend. For the past two years, she explained, she has been living with this man in Solférino N0 2, Vacoas. On several occasions they have had sexual relations, with his consent.
On Thursday June 29, at around 12.10am, her boyfriend came to the house. He came into the room and offered to have sex with her, but she refused. At some point, the man took out his cell phone and checked her Facebook profile. He became furious when he saw the last message he’d seen on her phone. He then started insulting her, “to konton fer…mem twa to pou konne ki mo pou fer ar twa zordi”.
The young woman says she asked him to return his phone, but he refused before slapping her across the face, before threatening that he would abuse her to get her pregnant, “….mo pou guette ki… pou ramas twa”. Her boyfriend then sexually abused her. The first person she confided in was her mother.
On the morning of Friday June 30, the suspect was arrested by police officers from the Vacoas police station.
He was subsequently brought before the Curepipe court. He is facing a provisional charge of rape. He was taken back to the police cell.
