Police in Abercrombie, St Croix are actively searching for a 42-year-old man from Cité La Cure on a charge of aggravated assault. The offence was committed on Tuesday morning 9 April against his 18-year-old niece. Following an argument with the young woman’s boyfriend, the man grabbed a knife and struck his niece twice. The niece, who sustained injuries to the chest and right waist, was rushed to Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis, where she was admitted to hospital after receiving treatment.
An argument reportedly broke out between the young woman’s boyfriend and his uncle. The latter was furious and grabbed a knife to inflict two blows on his niece who tried to come between them. It was around 8.45am on Tuesday 9 April. The young woman, who works as a shop assistant, was bleeding profusely. Her father had to call in a local driver to take his daughter to hospital. After receiving emergency treatment, she was taken to the operating theatre for minor surgery.
Her state of health does not give cause for concern. An investigation has been opened to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the attack. The forty-year-old man is wanted by the police.
