Excavations in a cane field in Plaine Magnien have so far yielded nothing. Umyad Ebrahim, who is in prison for two murders, led MCIT officers to the spot where he claims to have buried a body. This was after he had been provisionally charged before the Mahebourg court. According to the police communications unit, the victim this time was a man. The search for the body began in the early afternoon. It ended after 3 pm. Umyad Ebrahim was unable to give any precise details.
Umyad Ebrahim made the headlines in May 2021. He is accused of murdering Zahira Ramputh and Hema Coonjoobeeharry, both aged 40. The bodies of the two women had been dug up a few hours apart in an orchard in Mare d’Albert. The former security guard conceded that he had killed Hema Coonjobeeharry. However, he told investigators that Zahira Ramputh had committed suicide.
The search resumes on Tuesday.
