Ugadi was celebrated nationally yesterday afternoon, April 9, 2024, at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture in Phoenix. Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, who was the guest of honor, praised the contribution of socio-cultural organizations in promoting values. He declared that the government is working for the advancement of all communities, and will do its utmost to protect the harmony that reigns in Mauritius. According to him, ancestral cultures endure thanks to their contribution. He invites young people to get involved in social issues, and will continue to work to protect social harmony throughout the country.
The Prime Minister also spoke of his government’s various measures, such as the minimum wage and pensions. “We have gone beyond our promises”, he declared.
For his part, Minister Kavy Ramano spoke of the symbolism of this celebration and of SAJ’s role in the country’s development.
For Narainsamy Sanyasi, President of the Mauritius Telegu Maha Sabha, cultural organizations must work in collaboration with the government to promote culture.
