The men of the Special Striking Team (SST) from police headquarters struck a blow on the afternoon of Sunday December 10 in Vallée Pitot. Two Malagasy nationals, a 55-year-old woman and her 18-year-old daughter, were arrested for possession of heroin and two perfume bottles containing oil suspected of being synthetic drugs. The street value of the drugs is estimated at Rs 6.2 million.
The two Madagascans, who arrived as tourists on Saturday December 9, thought they had succeeded in deceiving the vigilance of customs officers and police from the airport’s Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu). They had no idea that their movements were being monitored by the SST men, who had received information that they were carrying drugs.
On Sunday, this team of SST police officers led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Ashik Jagai stormed their lodgings in Vallée Pitot. A search of the premises uncovered two massage devices, concealing two plastic bags containing around 115 grams of heroin. Two perfume bottles containing oil suspected of being synthetic drugs.
The two suspects were arrested and taken to the Casernes Centrales for questioning. The drugs seized as evidence were taken to the Adsu office for safekeeping.
