Two Cousins Drown In Poste Lafayette

A tragedy occurred on the high seas in the Poste de Flacq area on the evening of Wednesday, April 20. Two cousins who went out for a fishing trip in a small boat lost their lives when it was capsized by a big swell. During the day of this Thursday, April 21, the bodies of his two cousins, Arlando Julie, 21 years old and Thierry Ramen, 41 years old were recovered from the water by elements of the National Coast Guard (NCG) of Poste Lafayette.

It was around 3 am this Thursday, April 21, that the disappearance at sea of Arlando Julie, resident of Debarcadère, Poste de Flacq and his cousin, Thierry Ramen who lives in NHDC, Poste de Flacq was reported to the police. It is their cousin Steven Ramen, a 42 year old fisherman who reported this disappearance. He explained that his two cousins who are fishermen went out in his boat since 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, for a fishing trip on the high seas and did not come back.

He said he was of the opinion that they were in trouble, because two empty jerry cans were floating in the water at La Passe Canon, Poste Lafayette. Elements of the NCG of Poste Lafayette and those of Belle-Mare were mobilized for the research, but in vain. This Thursday morning of April 21 from 6 hours the operation of searches continued with the support of the helicopter of the police force.

It was around 10 am that the body of Arlando Julie was fished out of the sea in front of the Saint Géran hotel, about one kilometer from the Choisy beach, in a depth of ten feet at La Passe Canon by the men of the NCG of Poste Lafayette. It is the same team that found Thierry Ramen around 12:45 pm this Thursday, April 21. The two bodies were thereafter transported to the morgue of the hospital Dr. A.G. Jeetoo, in Port-Louis.
