A resident of 9th Mile, Triolet was admitted to the North Hospital late Sunday afternoon, February 5. This is after he was pulled from the lagoon at Ananta Maa Mandir public beach in Grand Baie. The 61-year-old man’s condition was quite serious, and he was under the influence of alcohol.
It was following a request made to the Grand Bay police station concerning an individual in difficulty at sea that a team of police officers went to this public beach at around 5:30 pm on Sunday 5 February. On arrival, elements of the National Coast Guard (NCG) were already there. A man was lying on his back on the beach. He was rescued by members of the public in the lagoon when he was in trouble. The man in his sixties was taken care of by NCG men before being taken to the northern hospital. The man observed the police reeking of alcohol.
After he was treated, he was admitted to the ward. This area is covered by surveillance cameras. The 60-year-old was seen in difficulty in the lagoon and rescued by members of the public at around 5.12pm and brought back to the beach on Sunday 5 February.
