A Northern Hospital patient was transferred to a ward in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hôpital du Nord on the morning of Saturday 4 February after attempting suicide by hanging. The 54-year-old man from the village of Goodlands was placed on life support. His prognosis is life-threatening.

The patient was admitted to the hospital on the evening of Friday 3 February after attempting to commit suicide at home by taking a quantity of a noxious substance. The 50-year-old was admitted to a ward after receiving treatment. However, at around 9.49.45 am, Saturday 4 February, he made a second suicide attempt in the toilet of the ward of this hospital. He used a cord from his shorts to try to hang himself.

After being alerted to the case, a police officer from the hospital police station went to his bedside. A nurse on duty in the ICU ward recounted the circumstances of the incident.  The police photographer and draughtsman were sent to the hospital to take pictures and dimensions of the toilet where the patient tried to kill himself.

An investigation has been initiated into the matter under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nucchedy.
